Business Events Sunshine Coast - January 2019 update

31 January 2019

As one of Australia’s top ten significant areas, the Sunshine Coast Queensland is becoming one of Australia’s leading city regions of the 21st century.  Significant capital investment is already underway on the Sunshine Coast. A new city centre – the only greenfield CBD in Australia at this time – is being established in Maroochydore and a new A$1.8 billion tertiary teaching hospital opened in 2017. The Sunshine Coast Airport is being expanded to deliver Australia’s next international gateway and a A$81 million expansion of the University of the Sunshine Coast was completed in 2015.

More than A$2.5 billion in direct investment has been committed across these four major projects, in addition to more than A$10 billion in private investment fuelling growth in a number of high-value industries across the region.  Airline capacity is set to increase with Qantas announcing a second daily Sydney to Sunshine Coast route commencing March 2019.

Our Business Events team know that there is so much more to an event than four walls.  We have been asked every question imaginable – so whether you need somewhere to sleep, learn, indulge, taste or go offsite ask the local experts.

We invite corporate event planners and conference organisers to consider hosting their events in our region in 2019 and beyond.

CSR initiatives to include in your conference program

Reducing the environmental footprint across the tourism sector is a key initiative of Visit Sunshine Coast, with the region’s natural beauty at the core of our industry.

Local Sunshine Coast based tourism operator, Kanu Kapers, was recently recognised in the National Adventure Tourism Green Awards for Best Eco Tour in Australia and New Zealand.

Other tourism operators focusing on a green future include Eco River Rides, who offer Australia’s first solar-powered canoe experience on the Maroochy River, and EcoTekk Sunshine Coast that offers visitors electric bike tours.

These initiatives align with Visit Sunshine Coast’s (VSC) ‘Naturally Refreshing’ tagline and new Sustainability Action Plan and Policy.  The policy aims to reduce VSC’s own carbon footprint while encouraging tourism operators to adopt sustainable and environmentally-sensitive operating practices.
