Twin Waters QLD Announced as Location for Prestigious ASICS SMA Conference

Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) is pleased to announce the 2019 ASICS SMA Conference will be held in the beautiful Sunshine Coast next year from 23 – 26 October 2019.

This annual, multi-disciplinary event gathers together the brightest minds from around the world to hear the latest research updates in the fields of sports medicine, sport science, physical activity, health promotion and injury prevention.

Held over four days, the Conference aims to promote knowledge and assist in the prevention of lifestyle diseases by providing an interactive educational forum of the highest standard.

SMA CEO, Michael Kenihan says the Conference provides key information for anyone in the sport medicine industry looking to develop further in their career or create new networking opportunities.

“This event is a must for anyone working in sports medicine and the prevention of lifestyle diseases.

“Year-on year, the Conference attracts the most renowned and respected researchers from across the discipline.

“A real highlight of the event is that it features a vibrant social calendar and opportunities to network with some of the most influential researchers and practitioners in the field.

“It is a fantastic platform from which to develop, build and strengthen professionally and all against the backdrop of the beautiful Sunshine Coast which will be a real highlight for our delegates from both overseas and around the country,” Kenihan said.

Commenting on hosting the event, Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC) CEO, Simon Latchford said, “the Sunshine Coast is excited to host the 2019 ASICS Sports Medicine Australia National Conference. With an impressive range of sport and health facilities, sporting teams and portfolio of staging high-profile sporting events; the Sunshine Coast is well placed to host this annual conference in fact, it is a perfect fit for our destination!

“We know the Sunshine Coast is an outstanding location for hosting business and conference groups and we can offer a destination with a difference. We look forward to working with Sports Medicine Australia to provide a very ‘sunny’ welcome to the best in the sports medicine business.

“Fittingly, the calibre of attendees will continue to put a spotlight on and reinforce the Sunshine Coast’s reputation of being Australia’s leading regional events destination and the conference will also provide a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange,” added Mr Latchford.

Tourism, Events and Sport Portfolio Cr Jason O’Pray said hosting the conference at the Novotel Twin Waters resort was a great outcome for the Sunshine Coast and especially the region’s tourism sector.

“With high-quality sporting facilities, along with the Sunshine Coast Health Precinct which is one of the Australia’s largest health infrastructure precincts, this type of event is the perfect fit for our region,” Cr O’Pray said.

“The precinct is estimated to contribute $3.2 billion to the Sunshine Coast economy and a further $447 million in following years, so with conferences like this one, the uplift to the sector will continue to be positive.

“The economic benefit for the community goes far beyond just the conference.

“We are incredibly excited to roll out the red carpet for the sports medicine sector as we continue to elevate our status as a premium tourism and business events destination.”
