He ensures this globally recognized brand remains a leader within the tourism industry and continues to spread our conservation mission.

He manages a multi-disciplinary marketing team (Graphics, Events, Public Relations, Web, Sales) providing strategic vision and direction whilst coordinating all operational aspects of the department, including its policies and procedures.

This includes the strategy and coordination of all advertising and promotional campaigns for Australia Zoo, ensuring that all advertising and visual communications adhere to the development and execution of a clearly defined communication strategy in both traditional and digital mediums.

In addition to managing the marketing for Australia Zoo, he is also the Head of Strategic Development for Wildlife Warriors, the global conservation charity created in 2002 by Steve and Terri Irwin.  Leading a team of passionate wildlife conservationists both in Australia and the US, we inspire people to protect our wildlife and wild places around the world.

I believe the above makes me particularly well equipped to assist the VSC board given expertise in digital marketing and social media, strong tourism industry networks, community engagement and corporate governance.  I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue to promote this spectacular region.

Dr Vikki Schaffer

With effective leadership, strong community engagement, and a passion for supporting regional tourism that protects what we and our visitors come to enjoy, I believe I can make a positive contribution to the VSC Board.

Strong tourism industry and Local Government networks and community and stakeholder engagement: As a long-time resident of the Sunshine Coast, local volunteer, tourism academic at USC (teaching locally and internationally), previous Noosa Biosphere Social Board member and Ambassador with the Sunshine Coast Council Tourism, Sport and Leisure Taskforce, I have engaged with and developed an extensive network within tourism, leisure, and events on the Sunshine Coast (and beyond). In addition, through regionally partnered research (e.g. value of the ex-HMAS Brisbane Conservation Park, whale tourism, CoastSnap and TurtleCare) and supervising over 250 industry-student projects and internships; guest speaker at industry and community events and workshops (most recently: importance of stakeholder collaboration, leveraging industry cooperation, whale-related tourism and citizen science), I have a solid appreciation of our unique region and proactively strive to make positive contributions to regional resilience and sustainability.

Digital marketing and social media: For almost 10 years, I have coordinated a final year course that was the first to introduce social media into assessment (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) within industry projects.
