2017 Annual General Meeting

Notice is given that the annual general meeting of Sunshine Coast Destination Limited will be held as follows:

Venue:  Novotel Twin Waters, Ocean Drive, Twin Waters
Date: Wednesday 22 November 2017
Registration: 3.30pm - 4.00pm
Meeting opens:  4.00pm

The agenda and business of the meeting shall be:

1. Welcome by the Chair
2. Apologies
3. To confirm the minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 29 November 2016
4. Chairman’s report
5. To receive and consider the Company’s financial reports and the reports of the Directors and Auditor for the financial year ended 30 June 2017.
6. Company Auditor to announce the elected members to the Board of Directors for the relevant terms as specified in Rule 22.1 (a) of the Constitution. 
7. Chairman to announce the skilled based members to the Board of Directors for the relevant terms as specified in Rule 22.1(a) of the Constitution
8. To appoint an auditor for the ensuing year
9. General Business

Board Election

After undertaking a nomination process, SCDL has received six nominations for two available Member Elected Director positions.

SCDL has adopted an electronic voting system.  Accordingly, members eligible to vote will receive an email, sent to their nominated email address, entitled “VOTE NOW – 2017/18 VSC Member Elected Directors “.

Please note, only financial members as at 30 June 2017 that have also renewed their membership for 2017/18 will be entitled to vote.  All votes must be cast and received by 5pm, Tuesday 21 November 2017.

The voting process will be managed by the company’s auditor, Poole Group and accordingly SCDL will not have access to votes, nor be privy to the results of voting until the Annual General Meeting.

Bill Darby

Bill Darby has been a Sunshine Coast local for over 25 years and has 20 years’ experience in the management rights industry. Since 2009, Bill’s role as founding director and GM of Caloundra’s Rumba Beach Resort has provided first-hand insights into consumer behaviour, and it’s also given him the opportunity to develop close inter-personal relationships with fellow tourism colleagues right across the region, from Glass House to Gympie. Bill’s deep understanding of the tourism market, coupled with his appreciation of the challenges faced by tourism operators, will hopefully assist VSC with making better strategic decisions on behalf of all members.

As a former board member of VSC (SCDL), Bill has an intimate knowledge of the organisation so he can hit the ground running. From his six years as Tourism & Events Chair with Caloundra Chamber of Commerce he also understands the importance of respecting members and working together to achieve great outcomes.

Bill graduated from USC with an MBA and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and QTIC. He currently serves on USC’s Foundation Board, the Sunshine Coast Safe Night Precinct Board and the Sunshine Coast Major New Events Sub-Committee.



Darren Gertler

Darren Gertler

Darren is the Director of Marketing for Australia Zoo, setting the strategic direction for the broader marketing team including sales, public relations, web and advertising. He ensures this globally recognized brand remains a leader within the tourism industry and continues to spread our conservation mission.

He manages a multi-disciplinary marketing team (Graphics, Events, Public Relations, Web, Sales) providing strategic vision and direction whilst coordinating all operational aspects of the department, including its policies and procedures.

This includes the strategy and coordination of all advertising and promotional campaigns for Australia Zoo, ensuring that all advertising and visual communications adhere to the development and execution of a clearly defined communication strategy in both traditional and digital mediums.

In addition to managing the marketing for Australia Zoo, he is also the Head of Strategic Development for Wildlife Warriors, the global conservation charity created in 2002 by Steve and Terri Irwin.  Leading a team of passionate wildlife conservationists both in Australia and the US, we inspire people to protect our wildlife and wild places around the world. 

This makes Darren particularly well-equipped to assist the VSC board given his expertise in digital marketing and social media, strong tourism industry networks, community engagement and corporate governance.

He welcomes the opportunity to promote this spectacular region.
 



Philip Hart

Philip Hart has extensive experience in finance, management, tourism and hospitality.

Philip was a Founding Director of Financial Index Australia, now Australia’s largest independently owned group of financial and accountancy companies, employing more than 3000 people and more than $15 billion under management. He remains a major shareholder.

Philip holds a number of Board and Management Roles including:

  • Chairman, M2K Communications Board
  • CEO, Hart Corporation
  • Major Shareholder, Findex Group
  • Owner, Sunreef Mooloolaba
  • Owner, Captain Melville Hotel (Melbourne)
  • Owner, The Dock Mooloolaba (opening December 2017)
  • Board member, Visit Sunshine Coast
  • Digital Marketing Committee Member, Visit Sunshine Coast

Philip also holds the following qualifications:

  • Diploma of Business Management, Hospitality & Tourism
  • Diploma in Financial Planning



Simon Hislop

Simon Hislop

Simon grew up in regional New Zealand exposed to the tourism and hospitality industry through his parents operating businesses in this sector including hot air ballooning, hotels and restaurants. 

Simon’s background includes extensive experience in digital as well as his own SME businesses. 

In New Zealand his roles within digital exposed him to working with clients including Tourism New Zealand, Tourism Auckland, Absolutely Positively Wellington and Christchurch International Airport.

Currently working in the commercial team at TAFE Queensland East Coast Region in the role of Business Development Officer, Simon assists tourism and hospitality employers to plan their workforce strategies as well as engaging with local councils (Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Gympie) in terms of economic development as well as their internal L&D requirements.   Simon is also studying for his MBA online with University of Otago.

Having lived on the Sunshine Coast for the last 5 years Simon is passionate about the region and the extensive opportunities to continue to build a thriving tourism and hospitality industry that supports local businesses and jobs without compromising the reasons we all call the Sunshine Coast home.

Simon has built extensive networks with small business from Gympie to Caloundra and frequently represents TAFE Queensland at various Chamber groups and other industry events.

Simon is confident that his combination of business experience, both as a business owner and consultant to business, combined with his digital knowledge and industry networks places him in a strong position to hold a place on the Visit Sunshine Coast Board.

Sarah Pye

Sarah Pye has worked in various facets of tourism for 35 years. She currently teaches at the University of the Sunshine Coast and runs her own consultancy business Sustainable Promotions – focusing on event management and public relations.

In 2009, Sarah published a guidebook called Kids Welcome to Queensland for which she was named Sunshine Coast Small Business Woman of the Year in 2010.

Sarah was the original owner and captain of multi award-winning ocean rafting in the Whitsunday Islands and has been a board member of Tourism Whitsunday and Visit Sunshine Coast.

She holds a Master of Communication, Bachelor degree in Hospitality Management, and is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Creative Arts degree.



Greg Taylor

Greg Taylor

Greg is the onsite Manager of Osprey Apartments in Mooloolaba.  Osprey Apartments is an iconic building situated on the oceanfront in Mooloolaba. The Osprey is a popular 60 Apartment complex predominately used for short-term holiday rental.

Greg has a background in law, business and mediation providing him with a broad range of commercial knowledge and acumen. His business career has allowed him to experience first hand the many sides of business including that of employee, employer, supplier, wholesaler, franchisor, franchisee, retailer and contractor.

The information obtained from his Law degree, International Business degree and his tenure at the Caxton Legal Centre continues to provide him with a broad and up to date understanding of the business community and the legal issues faced by business managers in today’s commercial environment.
