Pilates retreat debuts in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

A mid-spring Pilates retreat is set to take the best of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and combine it with health and wellness.

Inspire Balance Pilates Health Retreats held their first ever ‘winter escape’ at Woody Grove Retreat in Mapleton this June, inviting guests to switch off from modern life and reconnect with themselves.

Sunshine Coast Pilates instructors Libby Mason and Narelle Jones were inspired to launch the business after experiencing firsthand the benefits Pilates can have both physically and mentally.

“Pilates is so much more than exercise, it is a physical meditation that helps connect the emotional, mental and physical parts of ourselves,” Libby said.

“It educates and empowers us to manage physical conditions and chronic pain and improve the quality of our lives.

“There are many retreat options overseas or in other parts of Australia, and whilst we have some local yoga and wellness retreats, Pilates and wellness retreats are few and far between.

“We are so excited to offer retreats where people can enjoy amazing locations, experience our love of Pilates and wellness, whilst choosing to do as much or as little as they want to whilst on the retreat.”

Both Libby and Narelle took up Pilates through their individual searches to ease chronic back pain, and met years later while studying a Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology.

Their Spring Pilates Escape will be held in October 2019 with a Summer Retreat to follow in February 2020.

Guests can expect to start their day at sunrise with a silent walk, Pilates and warming breakfast.

The weekend of self-care will include a massage treatment for each guest and workshops designed to inspire a healthy and balanced life.

All this is interspersed with delicious catered meals, meditation and nature walks to some of the Sunshine Coast’s most serene locations.

“Our aim is for our guests to enjoy four days of being looked after, so they can take time out, let go of all the roles they play on a daily basis, and just ‘be’, reconnecting with self or making new connections with others,” Narelle said.

“By day four, we hope our guests will leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and reconnected.”

The three-night Retreats start at $1445 per person for twin share and private rooms are also available. They are suitable for people with or without Pilates experience, with all classes designed to be gentle and supportive. All activities are options, with guests invited to spend the time at their own pace. A small number of single-day retreat spaces are also available.
