VSC reaches 100,000 Instagram followers!

Powerful imagery of the Sunshine Coast’s secluded beaches and lush hinterland has captured the imaginations of social media users, with the official Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC) Instagram page this week reaching a milestone 100,000 followers.

The VSC Instagram page was launched in 2013 to increase brand awareness of the destination through photos of the region’s iconic landmarks, tourist attractions and local wildlife.

The page’s content is user generated, and since it started, more than 400,000 people have shared their photos through the #visitsunshinecoast hashtag.

VSC CEO Simon Latchford said as a marketing tool Instagram has the power to influence holidaymakers researching their next getaway online.

“Destination imagery is the number one tool to inspire travel and convert bookings to our region,” Mr Latchford said.

“Each day, more than 350 people are sharing photos of the Sunshine Coast to Instagram through the #visitsunshinecoast hashtag.

“From the coast to the Hinterland, these photos tell the story of our region and provide holiday-makers with travel ideas and bucket list experiences.

“As well as sharing destination imagery, we regularly post Instagram stories promoting upcoming events, new tourism offerings and ‘behind the scenes’ footage of some the Sunshine Coast’s star attractions.

“These stories will often include a link to the VSC website, providing holiday-makers with a direct call to action.”

VSC will celebrate the milestone Instagram following in coming weeks with a series of throwback posts to some of the page’s most popular images.

And while inviting beach entrances, drone footage of secluded beaches and sunsets over the Glass House Mountains always rate highly on the page, it was a koala joey that ultimately stole the show to become VSC’s most ‘liked’ post of all time.

The adorable image of ‘Beau’ the koala joey from Wildlife HQ received close to 7,500 likes and more than 200 comments since it was posted in February this year.
