ITINERARY

Maleny

Maleny is about hour and a half north of Brisbane city, located in the stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Maleny is known for its stunningly green, undulating countryside. The landscape is dotted with cows, interspersed with pockets of remnant rainforest, and offset by breathtaking birds-eye views of the Glass House Mountains, creating an exceptionally pretty holiday destination. Maleny has a charming village, with the gentle Obi Obi Creek winding around it, where you can spot the occasional platypus if you’re lucky. Life revolves around vibrant Maple Street. With its organic cafes, eclectic fashion boutiques, brilliant bookstores and historic hotel it is your first stop on your day-trip to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. There’s a thriving art scene here, with contemporary art galleries and artist’s co-operatives, bodyworkers offering a range of delicious healing therapies.

If you are heading along on a Sunday, stop off at the Maleny Sunday Markets at the RSL Hall, on Bunya Street from 8am to 2pm. Delight your senses with a variety of stalls offering special hand made arts and crafts, as well as delicious food stalls, antiques, jewellery, massages and so much more.

Stop off in Maleny for a delicious breakfast and enjoy people watching as you sip on a 5-star coffee.

After breakfast, take the short drive from Maleny to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and immerse yourself in the ancient rainforest. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is surrounded by lush national parks that provide wonderful walking tracks for easy day walks to over night Great Walks, with waterfalls and waterholes to relax next to or cool down after your bushwalking adventure.

Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve comprises of 55-hectares of National Estate listed subtropical rainforest overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains. A remnant of the rainforests that once covered the Blackall Range, the Reserve is a living museum of diverse plant and animal life which promises to delight with its tranquillity and beauty. Step back in time in their Rainforests Through Time display at

the Discovery Centre, take a relaxing walk along their rainforest tracks, have a picnic or barbecue, or relax at the Cafe.

On your way to Montville, take the short drive back to Maleny, and visit Maleny Food Co. for one of their award-winning gelati’s or sorbet’s. There is a huge selection to choose from and the friendly staff are happy to recommend some of the best-selling flavours. If you are thinking of more of a savoury option, then spend some extra time explore their amazing fromagerie, with over 250+ types of cheese you are guaranteed to walk out with a smile on your face and a wheel in hand.

Montville

Your next village to visit is Montville. First settled in 1887, it has grown into a thriving shopping village with a wonderful array of quality art galleries, stylish cafes and restaurants, gift shops and beautiful fashion stores, set in the picturesque surroundings of a shady tree-lined street with incredible views all the way down to the coast. Don’t miss the thriving village with its quaint European architecture and unique character. Some might say Montville is the creative soul of the region with a myriad of art galleries, pottery studios, craft cottages, gift and antique shops, specialty shops and more.
