Christmas festivities on the Sunshine Coast

There are a number of ways to celebrate the festive season on the Sunshine Coast.


Why not grab your picnic blanket and take the family to an outdoor movie, or head along to The Ginger Factory for some Christmas fun.

Here we share the festive events bringing the Christmas cheer this December on the Sunshine Coast.

Christmas in Cooroy
WHEN: 6 & 7 December
WHERE: Maple St, Cooroy

Held on the first weekend of December, Christmas in Cooroy is a free family-friendly community event that includes carols, an animal farm, rides and a street parade. Visit their website for the full program.

Christmas at the Ginger Factory
WHEN:  4-24 December, every Wednesday-Sunday & Christmas Eve, 9:30am-1:30pm
WHERE: The Ginger Factory, 50 Pioneer Rd, Yandina

Christmas is just around the corner and Santa himself will be visiting The Ginger Factory this December. He even has some early Christmas gifts to give out to all the good boys and girls! Visit their website for more.

Christmas Light Cruises
WHEN: 2-30 December, each evening at 6.30 and 7pm
WHERE: Sunshine Coast Afloat

Enjoy the lights of Christmas along the waterfront properties of Mooloolaba, Minyama, and Buddina. Properties owners along the water’s edge compete for the prize of best presented display. Each year they clearly pull out all stops to have a shot at first prize! 

Tramfest Christmas Celebration
WHEN: 7 December, 5-9pm
WHERE: Howard St, Nambour

Bring the whole family for a free night of music, food and fun at the Tramfest Christmas Celebration  in Nambour.

5th Annual Treehouse Kids Christmas Party
WHEN: 1 December, 9am-2pm
WHERE: Field 5, Kawana Sports Precinct, Nicklin Way

Bring your swimmers for the Annual Treehouse Christmas Party, the biggest disability Christmas party on the Sunshine Coast. There will be a Funland Playground, waterslides and face painting. Cost $10 per person as a donation to STEPS Autism Treehouse.

Maleny Arts & Crafts Christmas Fair

A Very Kranksy Christmas
WHEN: 13 December, 7:30pm
WHERE: The Events Centre, Caloundra

Cloistered in the old rickety family house in their home town of Esk in Queensland, the musical sisters’ traditional Christmas festivities have until now been shrouded in secrecy. For this very special season they let you into their world of egg nog, panty-hose and painted chokos. Tickets start at $44.90.

USC Solar Nights
WHEN: 13-22 December, 6:30-9:30pm
WHERE: University of the Sunshine Coast

Experience the power of light at the University of the Sunshine Coast these school holidays with Solar Nights: an ethereal, interactive light trail that celebrates an agreement to make USC Sunshine Coast a solar-powered campus with energy partner Veolia. Suitable for all ages.

Twilight Christmas Train
WHEN: 13, 20 December, 5:30-9pm
WHERE: Historic Gympie Station, Tozer St, Gympie
Welcome aboard the inaugural Mary Valley Rattler Twilight Christmas Train! Depart Historical Gympie Station at 5.30pm for the rare opportunity to enjoy a journey on the Mary Valley Rattler at night. Take in the Mary Valley under a setting sun, before arriving at the historical Amamoor Station where there will be a bar, food and market stalls. Kids are catered for with games and activities, with fireworks to follow. Bookings are required.

Christmas Boat Parade
WHEN: 14 December, 7pm
WHERE: Public boat ramp, 51 Parkyn Pde, Mooloolaba

The Mooloolaba Yacht Club Christmas Boat Parade is a Christmas lights display with a difference, you’ll find decorated hulls alongside houses! Cheer on the boats as they stream down Mooloolah River and Kawana Waters’ canal. Event is free for spectators, or parade entry by donation.

Sunset Cultural Tour
WHEN: 14 December, 5pm
WHERE: Mooloolaba canals

Admire the Christmas light boat parade on Mooloolaba waterways from a unique perspective, while enjoying an authentic cultural experience on the Sunshine Coast. Brought to you by Saltwater Eco Tours in partnership with Triballink.

Aussie World Christmas Spectacular
WHEN: 21 December, from 5pm
WHERE: Aussie World, 1 Downunder Dr, Palmview

Meet Santa and Mrs Claus, come face to face with Christmas characters, enjoy the roving Carolers, meet the Aussie Kids and watch the magic show in The Shed at the Aussie World Christmas Spectacular. There's also snow, pyrotechnics, laser-displays, Christmas lights and live entertainment as well as all the rides and attractions open. Cost: $32.

Coolum Beach Outdoor Movie ‘Elf’

Montville Christmas Wonderland

WHEN: 1-23 December
WHERE: 15 Narrows Road, Montville

Immerse yourself in the spirit of Christmas at the magical Montville Christmas Wonderland. The indoor display includes a miniature village, Australian Christmas display, large nativity scene, horse and carriage, light fountain and snow cave, all set against 150,000 lights!
