Christmas festivities on the Sunshine Coast

There are a number of ways to celebrate the festive season on the Sunshine Coast.

 

Why not grab your picnic blanket and take the family to an outdoor movie, or head along to The Ginger Factory for some Christmas fun.

Here we share the festive events bringing the Christmas cheer this December on the Sunshine Coast, from outdoor concerts to an unforgettable sunset ride on the Mary Valley Rattler.

November 30- December 1

Christmas in Cooroy
WHEN: 30 November – 1 December
WHERE: Maple St, Cooroy

Held on the first weekend of December, Christmas in Cooroy is a free family-friendly community event that includes carols, an animal farm, rides and a street parade. Visit their website for the full program.

Seaside Dusk Christmas Movie Night
WHEN: December 1, 5-8pm
WHERE: Glen Retreat Park, Marcoola

Enjoy the Peter Rabbit movie with the family, a sausage sizzle and lolly giveaway from Santa at this Christmas Movie Night. Entry by gold coin donation.

Nambour Outdoor Movie ‘Arthur Christmas’
WHEN: December 1, 6:30pm
WHERE: Quota Park, Nambour

Enjoy Arthur Christmas under the stars with the whole family.


10-30 December

Christmas Light Cruises
WHEN: 10-30 December, each evening at 6.30 and 7pm
WHERE: Sunshine Coast Afloat

Enjoy the lights of Christmas along the waterfront properties of Mooloolaba, Minyama, and Buddina. Properties owners along the water’s edge compete for the prize of best presented display. Each year they clearly pull out all stops to have a shot at first prize! 

5-24 December

Christmas at the Ginger Factory
WHEN: 5-24 December, every Wednesday-Sunday & Christmas Eve, 9:30am-1:30pm
WHERE: The Ginger Factory, 50 Pioneer Rd, Yandina

Christmas is just around the corner and Santa himself will be visiting The Ginger Factory this December. He even has some early Christmas gifts to give out to all the good boys and girls! Visit their website for more.
 

December 8

Community Christmas Movie Screening and Carols at Chancellor Park
WHEN: From 4pm
WHERE: Chancellor State College, Sippy Downs

Enjoy a jumping castle, food trucks, bubble soccer and carols at this family fun event, before sitting back to watch the movie Ferdinand on the huge outdoor screen from 7pm.

Christmas Concert
WHEN: From 2pm
WHERE: Kawana Community Hall, Nanyima St, Buddina

Bring the whole family for this Christmas concert with carols by the Sunshine Coast Concert Band, perfect for the whole family. There are prizes available to be won on the night, with a visit from Santa for the kids. Tickets are $15 and include afternoon tea.

Tramfest Christmas Celebration
WHEN: 5-9pm
WHERE: Howard St, Nambour

Bring the whole family for a free night of music, food and fun at the Tramfest Christmas Celebration  in Nambour.

Eumundi Drive in
WHEN: from 6:30pm
WHERE: Eumundi Showgrounds, 1 Black Stump Rd, Eumundi

Enjoy Christmas Vacation (M) and Life of Brian (M) at the Eumundi drive-in double-movie event. Cost $25 per car or $10 walk-ins.

 

9 December

5th Annual Treehouse Kids Christmas Party
WHEN: 9am-2pm
WHERE: Field 1, Kawana Sports Precinct, Nicklin Way

Bring your swimmers for the Annual Treehouse Christmas Party, the biggest disability Christmas party on the Sunshine Coast. There will be a Funland Playground, mechanical surf board and dunk tank. Cost $10 per person as a donation to STEPS Autism Treehouse.

Christmas in Alex
WHEN: 4-8pm
WHERE: Buhk Park, Alexandra Parade

Enjoy rides and free entertainment at this family-friendly Christmas celebration.

12 December

Christmas with Karen Knowles
WHEN: 11am-12:30pm
WHERE: The Events Centre, Caloundra

Gold and platinum award winner, Karen Knowles is one of Australia’s favourite singers and is coming to Caloundra for a special Christmas concert. A post-show two-course Christmas lunch is available for purchase. Tickets are $18.
 

14 December

Twilight Christmas Train
WHEN: From 5:30-9pm
WHERE: Historic Gympie Station, Tozer St, Gympie

Welcome aboard the inaugural Mary Valley Rattler Twilight Christmas Train! Depart Historical Gympie Station at 5.30pm for the rare opportunity to enjoy a journey on the Mary Valley Rattler at night. Take in the Mary Valley under a setting sun, before arriving at the historical Amamoor Station where there will be a bar, food and market stalls. Kids are catered for with games and activities, with fireworks to follow. Bookings are required.

A Family Christmas
WHEN: From 6:30pm
WHERE: Kawana Forest Meeting Place, 60 Woodlands Blvd, Meridan Plains

Listen to the story of the first Christmas and enjoy live music and carols at this family-friendly event.

USC Solar Night
WHEN: 14-23 December, 6:30-9:30pm
WHERE: University of the Sunshine Coast

Experience the power of light at the University of the Sunshine Coast these school holidays with Solar Nights: an ethereal, interactive light trail that celebrates an agreement to make USC Sunshine Coast a solar-powered campus with energy partner Veolia. Suitable for all ages.
 

19 December

Maleny Christmas Tree Festival
WHEN: 19- 24 December, Various times
WHERE: Uniting Church Maleny, 1284-1290 Landsborough Maleny Rd, Maleny

Each year Maleny Uniting Church hosts a Christmas Tree Festival during the week before Christmas, transforming the church and hall into a Christmas wonderland. Donations go towards the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.
 

22 December

Christmas Boat Parade
WHEN: 6:30-8:30pm
WHERE: Sunshine Coast Afloat, public boat ramp, 51 Parkyn Pde, Mooloolaba

The Mooloolaba Yacht Club Christmas Boat Parade is a Christmas lights display with a difference, you’ll find decorated hulls alongside houses! Cheer on the boats as they stream down Mooloolah River and Kawana Waters’ canal. Event is free for spectators, or parade entry by donation.

Aussie World Christmas Spectacular
WHEN: From 5pm
WHERE: Aussie World, 1 Downunder Dr, Palmview

Meet Santa and Mrs Claus, come face to face with Christmas characters, enjoy the roving Carollers, watch the fireworks, meet the Aussie Kids and watch the Christmas show in The Shed at the Aussie World Christmas Spectacular. There's also snow, pyrotechnics, laser-displays, Christmas lights and live entertainment. Cost: $29

 

24 December

Mooloolaba Christmas Celebrations
WHEN: From 6pm
WHERE: Mooloolaba Beach

Watch Santa arrive by surf boat in true Sunshine Coast style and enjoy a fantastic firework display on Mooloolaba Main Beach with the whole family.

Kenilworth Community Christmas Eve Event
WHEN:  4:30-9pm
WHERE: Kenilworth Hall and Showgrounds

Enjoy this free all-ages community event held annually on Christmas Eve at Kenilworth Showgrounds. There will be amusement rides as well as a visit from Santa.

Montville Christmas Wonderland

WHEN: 24 November – 23 December
WHERE: 15 Narrows Road, Montville

Immerse yourself in the spirit of Christmas at the magical Montville Christmas Wonderland. The indoor display includes a miniature village, Australian Christmas display, large nativity scene, horse and carriage, light fountain and snow cave, all set against 150,000 lights!
