byLiz Tuckett-26 Apr 2017

Guess who's back? The much missed local bevy, Eumundi Beer will once again be brewed on site at its spiritual home, the Imperial Hotel in the heart of Eumundi. The ideal place to stop for a cold one after shopping at Eumundi Markets

Lion has announced a new partnership with the Imperial Hotel and a return of the much missed local beer brand, Eumundi – which is now brewed on site at its spiritual home, the Imperial Hotel in the heart of Eumundi, opposite the Eumundi Markets

In making the announcement, Lion Brewmaster Chuck Hahn said the partnership would revive a much loved local craft beer for Queensland.

“We’re excited to be partnering the Imperial Hotel and building a new brewery that will rekindle Eumundi in the place where the beer was first crafted in 1988. We’re planning to have the brewery up and running during 2017 to offer a great range of flavoursome craft beers to locals and visitors to the area.”

Lion Brewmaster, Dr Chuck Hahn is overseeing and orchestrating the Eumundi Brewery project and has now handed over the reins to esteemed Head Brewer, Chris Sheehan.

Chris will be based on-site at the iconic Imperial Hotel in Eumundi overseeing the installation of the brewing “kit”, and most importantly, fine-tuning the recipes and roll-out of the much anticipated beers to be available later this year.

In taking on the Eumundi role, Chris will leave his role as Head Brewer for James Squire and Malt Shovel Brewery in Sydney, where he has been for a number of years. Prior to that he’s held managerial roles with the nation’s beery best: with XXXX in Brisbane (where he fell in love with Queensland); West End Brewery in Adelaide; Knappstein Enterprise Brewery in the Clare Valley; and Swan Brewery in Perth.

And he cannot wait to start his next chapter with his family on the Sunshine Coast.

“It’s an exciting time to be a brewer in south east Queensland – with so much happening in Brisbane and on the Coast in a beer sense,” says Chris.

“We have a terrific opportunity to make great flavoured beers that are top quality and will be appreciated by a discerning market of beer lovers.”

“Beyond the brews, I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with both my mountain bike and surfboard!”

History

Eumundi Lager was born in 1988, when John Lynch (a brewing engineer and developer) invited people to invest in a brewery in Eumundi. The group purchased the Imperial Hotel in Eumundi, installed a brewery and launched Eumundi Lager in February 1988. Following a brief public listing the brewery was closed in 1992 and brewing of Eumundi was contracted to Yatala Brewery (formerly Powers Brewing then CUB).
