byGemma Westacott-28 Mar 2018

Renowned for its laid-back creative vibe, Eumundi offers a relaxing yet diverse family escape that is sure to inspire the artists, foodies, musicians and adventure seekers of your family in equal measure.

Set amongst the lush, rolling hills of the Noosa Hinterland, Eumundi is a refreshing alternative to the Sunshine Coast's beautiful beaches, and is a place where you're sure to create family memories that will last a lifetime.

Stroll along the quiet tree-lined main street and you will soon discover that this quaint, historic town is overflowing with modern, vibrant galleries, studios and theatres, top quality cafes and stores selling the freshest local produce.

A vast sea of colourful stalls are set up under the town's magnificent heritage listed fig trees, with stallholders offering everything from handcrafted furniture, artworks and ceramics, to cutting-edge fashion and jewellery, and a wealth of fresh produce and gourmet delights. Children's activities are an added feature during school holidays, while face painting and balloon artists entertain at other times. This fabulous heritage pub is found in the heart of Eumundi Village and offers the perfect place for the whole family to refuel. Mum and Dad will enjoy the fine bistro fare which they can wash it down with a cold Eumundi Beer that is brewed onsite. Meanwhile, the kids will entertain themselves for hours in the dedicated play room, which is equipped with Playstations, big screen movies, colouring books and pencils, a rubber ball den and comfy cushions. A camera monitor is visible from the beer garden, so you’re able to relax while still keeping an eye on the kids.

Artisans Gallery

Artistic members of the family will enjoy wandering around the town’s numerous and diverse galleries. The Artisans Gallery, located in the heart of the township, should not be missed. It operates as an arts hub, promoting regular guest exhibitors and emerging creatives. It is also home to one of Australia's premier dealers in Aboriginal fine art, Red Desert Gallery, and artist David Suters' impressive timber works, which are displayed alongside impressive glass, clay, stone, and metal creations.

The Ginger Factory

A firm favourite with younger members of the family and foodies alike, The Ginger Factory offers a fun outing that can be as relaxed or fast-paced as you want. Take a walk through the beautiful rainforest gardens, or let the kids explore the playground as you watch on from the neighbouring cafe and enjoy a coffee and ginger scone. You can buy tickets to ride the 116-year-old former sugar cane train, or the indoor boat ride Overboard, which tells the story of the Gingerbread Man as he races around the world being chased by two bakers. Alternatively, take a tour of the working ginger factory, or take in the live bee show, where you can watch the hives in action.

Climb Mt Ninderry

Action and adventure await nearby in the wave-like shape of Mt Ninderry. Just 15 minutes drive south of Eumundi, Mt Ninderry is 304m high and offers the perfect combination of natural beauty and stunning views, with a bushwalk that isn't too difficult, even for younger members of the family. It takes about 30 minutes to hike the steady path upwards from the carpark, but you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the coastline, Mount Coolum and the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. To get there, follow Ninderry Rd until Eucalyptus Circle and look for a cement drive up to the carpark on the right. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and pack bottled water.
