How to unwind on the Sunshine Coast in 7 days

byGemma Westacott-05 Apr 2018

Escape the daily grind and find a rejuvenating world of relaxation on the Sunshine Coast, where reconnection, renewal and revitalisation are just a tranquil day at the beach away.

With other activities ranging from stunning bushwalks and top-quality degustation dinners, to spa and shopping experiences, seven days on the Sunshine Coast will see you unwind and be left feeling rejuvenated.

Located an hour's drive north from Brisbane or two hours north of the Gold Coast, you could have sand between your toes and be enjoying a beachside beverage in no time.

Here’s our top tips for seven sensational days of relaxation. Although, with so much to see and do by the end of your Sunshine Coast break, we bet you’ll be booking your next visit.

Day 1 - Get Creative on the Arts Trail

After a relaxing walk or refreshing swim at one of the Sunshine Coast's numerous pristine Surf Lifesaver patrolled beaches, explore your creative side as you discover the region's many artistic talents on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Arts Trail. Set your own pace as you are captivated by the region's many talented artists, photographers, crafters and sculptors, making sure to stop by Art on Cairncross or Illume Creations . If you're on the coast from 19 to 22 April, you may also want to stop by the Ukulele Fiesta in Kenilworth, where workshops will get you strumming or singing like a pro.

Day 2 - Collective Experiences

Tick cuddling a koala (or lemur, or meerkat … ) off your bucket list during a visit to one of the Sunshine Coast’s world-class zoos. Australia Zoo has animals from all over the world that you can get up close to, while WildLife HQ offers a true Australian experience with many animal encounter opportunities. Whale lovers will also want to hotfoot it to Whale One which offers a unique and incredible chance to swim with whales during whale season. Or if you’d rather cook up an experience of the culinary kind, book into a cooking class at one of the Sunshine Coast’s top cooking schools. Learn to cook tantalizing Thai at the Spirit House Restaurant and Cooking School in Yandina, or Spicers Tamarind Retreat  in Maleny, or learn Japanese with Wasabi Restaurant & Bar in Noosa.

Day 3 - Reconnect with Nature

Set a leisurely pace as you enjoy a bushwalk through one of the Sunshine Coast's numerous national parks or forest reserves. Get your blood pumping as you hike up iconic Mount Coolum, or take in the amazing views of the Glass House Mountains from Mary Cairncross Scenic  Reserve.  If you'd rather chase waterfalls, it's an easy stroll through the sub-tropical rainforest of Buderim Forest Park to the picture-perfect and always Instagram ready Buderim Falls. Take the experience to the next level and order a luxury picnic from Sunshine Coast Picnics or Deep Love Picnics where everything is taken care of and you need only sit back and enjoy your champagne and view.

Day 4 - Coastal Drive

Make the most of the Sunshine Coast's pristine beaches with a drive along the coastline from Caloundra to Noosa. This scenic 73km drive takes you to Point Cartwright where the panoramic views will give you a wonderful overview of the region and you may even spot a passing whale. Next make a beeline for Cotton Tree where a stand-up paddleboard is the perfect way to explore the calm, clear waters before taking your time as you wind your way northwards past Mount Coolum and on towards Noosa National Park.

Or head off on a brewery tour and sample some of the coast’s innovative new brews. Cheese and coffee lovers will rejoice at the range of local goodies on offer at Maleny Food Co, while a stop at Maleny Dairies will reward you with the freshest milk straight from this working farm.
