The endless, golden sands of this secluded beach are bounded by the Maroochy River and the clear, blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Hidden away in the backstreets of Mudjimba has given this glorious beach ‘hidden gem’ status and made it the perfect getaway for those seeking a truly relaxing beach holiday with friends and family.
An aquatic playground
The beach is patrolled 365 days a year and you should only swim between the flags near Mudjimba Surf Club’s watch tower in case of rips or strong currents. Along the beach you’ll find excellent fishing spots in the rip gutters and at the river mouth just south of Twin Waters. For surfers there are consistent surf breaks along the beach with better banks towards Point Arkwright. The patrolled parts of the beach are perfect for the kids’ boogie board adventures.
Playgrounds, picnic areas and dining
You’ll find a fantastic kids’ playground adjacent to Mudjimba Surf Club. This grassy recreation area is well-shaded and covered BBQs and picnic tables make this a great spot for a long, lazy lunch. Just across the road there are numerous eateries serving everything from traditional fish ‘n’ chips to organic, locally-grow fare and espresso coffee.
Mudjimba Island (Old Woman Island)
Just off the coast of Mudjimba is Mudjimba Island which was once owned by Sean Connery. Affectionately known by locals as Old Woman Island, it’s a favourite spot for snorkelers and divers with its amazing coral gardens and myriad of sea life including: lionfish, butterfly fish and moray eels.
There’s a great range of accommodation options from luxury self-contained apartments and resorts to camping and holiday cottages – all just a stroll through Maroochy River Conservation Park to the pandanus-lined beach shore.
Mudjimba Beach is 3 km south of Marcoola and 3.5 km to Sunshine Coast Airport. There is plentiful, unmetered parking close to the beach front reserve affording easy beach access.
