The Sunshine Coast delivers a vibrant calendar of world class events combining the best of the destination's relaxed lifestyle and natural beauty.  If you need an excuse to get away, then take a squiz at the sporting, music, fashion and gardening festivals heading to this fair region - and lock yourself in for a mini-break.

1.    Queensland Garden Expo, 7 - 9 July

Queensland Garden Expo is a three day celebration of gardening, attracting green thumbs and novice gardeners from across Australia. Held at Nambour in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the event showcases the best of subtropical gardening.  Enjoy landscape display gardens, demonstrations and lectures, a giant kitchen garden and a gardeners and gourmets cooking school. With more than 360 exhibits to browse and a host of free children's activities - it's a great day out for the whole family.

2.    Velothon Sunshine Coast, 13 - 16 July

Velothon Sunshine Coast is the ultimate winter cycling escape, bringing together a stunning riding location, dream riding conditions and a world class rider experience on and off the bike. A new take on the traditional European rides, Velothon Sunshine Coast is a mass participation cycling event held across the renowned hinterland and coastal roads. There are a range of entry options for competitors, so bring a team, or roll solo - there's a daily 'King of the Mountain' jersey up for grabs! At the end of each day, kick back and relax with your mates and relive every sprint and summit at the Mooloolaba Beachfront Velo Bar and Clubhouse.

3. Noosa alive!, 21 – 30 July

Noosa alive! is a 13 day festival of theatre, literature, music, dance, film, visual arts, cuisine and barrier-breaking forums – in one of Australia’s most enviable destinations: Noosa Heads, Queensland. Now recognised as one of Australia’s foremost regional cultural events, Noosa Alive! presents a diverse program of events which attracts some of the best Australian and international performers, writers, film-makers, musicians, artists, chefs, environmentalists and commentators.

4.  Ironman 70.3, 8 - 10 August

Mooloolaba Beach is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday. The beachside atmosphere, the friendly people and the endless scenic beauty of Mooloolaba Beach make Ironman 70.3 popular destination event. Competitors will take in the best that Mooloolaba has to offer, starting with a swim off the surf beach followed by a flat and fast bike course. The run will tie up the day’s exciting events with a two lap course around Mooloolaba Esplanade which will be lined with spectators.

5.    7 Sunshine Coast Marathon, 20 August

7 Sunshine Coast Marathon and Community Running Festival makes the most of the ideal Queensland winter running conditions. Blue skies, low humidity and mild temperatures combined with a flat course, always enable fast times. Each road race follows the stunning coastline of Alexandra Headland with white sandy beaches and spectacular vantage points alongside the ocean. With a distance to suit every ability and age group, this community-focused, world-class athletic event caters to all those wanting to take part, including families and those with both physical and intellectual disabilities.

6.    Horizon Festival of Arts and Culture, 25 August - 3 September

Experience the creative soul of the Sunshine Coast in a region-wide showcase of performance, art and literature at Horizon Sunshine Coast. Enjoy 10 days of thought-provoking talks, engaging sculpture, workshops, design technology, culinary delights, visual art and music from the coast to the hinterland.

7.    Maroochy Music Arts Festival. 26 August

Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival (MMVAF) is back in 2017, celebrating contemporary music and visual arts on the Sunshine Coast. With one main stage (so no clashes!) a champagne and oyster garden and larger-than-life art installations, the natural amphitheatre comes alive each year with the hottest acts and artists in Australia. Headliners this year include: Bernard Fanning, The Presets and white-hot Sydney outfit, Gang of Youths. While the music alone should convince you to get on board, MMVAF have also again curated a first-class visual artist line-up, which includes Sunshine Coast artist Lucas Salton showcasing his work, Spi-Fi Mo-Fo, and an exciting collaboration between Design Lab and Tiamco.

8. Caloundra Music Festival, 29 September - 2 October

Enjoy four days of sun, surf andsoul on the October long weekend at Kings Beach in Caloundra. Kings Beach and surrounds will come alive to the sounds of a diverse line-up of entertainment featuring the best of the Australian music industry as well as incredible international artists including: Spiderbait; Ronan Keating; Clairy Browne; Jon Stevens and Pseudo Echo.

9.    Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival, 21 October

The Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival features local, national and international design talent on the catwalk, Q&A sessions with fashion industry leaders, an awards presentation and a host of satellite events. The festival is the only established fashion event in Queensland with international recognition and celebrates its 10th birthday in 2017 - so expect something really special at this year's event!

10.    Wanderlust Sunshine Coast, November 9 - 12

Wanderlust Sunshine Coast is a four day celebration of mindful living.
