A local’s guide to food on the Sunshine Coast

11 Nov 2020

We’re going to let you in on a secret, the Sunshine Coast is brimming with incredible fresh produce, coffee that would make someone from Melbourne do a double take, and seafood that is so fresh it might just jump off your plate. We’re kidding, but it is fresh. Let us take you on a taste journey from Caloundra to Noosa, from Kenilworth to Cotton Tree, and everywhere in between.

But first, coffee.

Coffee roasteries are popping up all over the coast, and some of our favourite cafes have more types of milk than fingers on your hand. If you are northside, be sure to check out The Caf Coolum or The Island in Mudjimba. Head inland to have a delightful cup of tea at the stunning Orangery Maleny, or a must-visit is the Burrum Coffee Shack. Lawn Espresso serves a tasty drop that pairs perfectly with a freshly baked almond croissant from the local family artisan bakery 10 Acres. If you’re headed to Kawana and Caloundra make sure you get a cappuccino at Decisions or overlook the pristine Moffat beach from the Pocket Espresso Bar.

Local produce, we’ve got it!

The Coast is abundant in rich produce, and we have the farmers markets to prove it! On a Wednesday or Sunday make sure you visit the renowned Eumundi markets, where conditions of the stall mean everyone there must grow it, sew it, bake it or make it! Kawana farmers markets and Fisherman’s road always have a tasty selection, and the new Sunday Streatside markets in Maroochydore are a wonderful way finish the weekend.

Looking for more than just a foodie market? Nightquarter is the hottest new kid on the Birtinya block, with innovative eats, immersive experiences, live music and local culture! refreshing drinks.

For the freshest seafood you can imagine, it has got to be Mooloolaba for us. The Wharf hosts some incredible restaurants with seafood hero-ing some dishes at Spero and Riceboi. For those wanting a local experience like no other, wander along Parkyn Parade Mooloolaba for some fresh prawns and oysters and cross the road to enjoy them on the beach… paradise. Looking for something a bit different? Jump on the Mooloolaba Seafood Cruise to enjoy fresh seafood with friends and drinks on the water for a lunch you will not forget.

You didn’t think we would forget the drinks did you?

Beer, gin, vodka, wine, whatever your taste, the Coast has you covered! Sunshine Coast Craft beer tours can take you to sample some tasty brews from Brouhaha Maleny, Moffat Beach Brewery or the guys at 10 Toes in Maroochydore, just to name a few. Try a Larry, Sally or Macca at Your Mates in Kawana, and you can not miss the incredible petting zoo at the sustainably focussed Terella Brewing in North Arm.

For the fine diners

Looking for something a little bit fancy on the Sunshine Coast? There is a stunning variety of high class dining along the coastline and in the Hinterland. Try a degustation at Harry’s on Buderim, or venture into the beautiful gardens of Spirit House for an exquisite meal you won’t forget. Along the coastline, Spice Bar and The Boat Shed serve incredible eats with ocean views.
