The Sunshine Coast area evolved from an isolated farm community at the turn of the 20th century to hippie stronghold during the 60s, then to a creative hub starting in the 70s. There is no doubt the region attracts a creative class of people, and the originality of the artistic community has helped shape the region’s colour, character and energy.

Opera Australia’s The Marriage of Figaro

Noosa alive! in association with RICKYS presents the full scale touring production of Mozart’s, The Marriage of Figaro. This much-loved opera will retain the music and storyline of Mozart’s original: however, it will be performed in English with multiple principal artists from Opera Australia, plus a live touring Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Simon Kenway. The local children’s chorus will be under the direction of Opera Australia’s Regional Children’s Chorus Master Joshua van Konkelenberg and their local choir leader, Vivienne Ellis of Sunshine Beach High School.

West End to Broadway – in the Castle

After seven years of bringing world-class opera performances to one of the Sunshine Coast’s most dazzling venues, the Underground Opera Company’s West End to Broadway – In the Castle will be themed, ‘The Movie Musicals.’ Four stunning musical theatre performers will delight guests with incredible renditions of showstoppers from the golden years of Hollywood and more, for three shows only. The world class cast includes Dale Pengelly (Hot Shoe Shuffle, West End; Chicago, Asian Tour; Singin’ in the Rain, Hong Kong, Singapore; The Boy From Oz, Australian Tour), Louise Dorsman (Opera Q; Victorian Opera), Lionel Theunissen (Opera Q; Gateway Theatre Productions’ Jesus Christ Superstar, Sunshine Coast), while debuting Pia Frangiosa (Queensland Conservatorium; Wax Lyrical Productions’ Carrie, Brisbane Powerhouse), accompanied by the incomparable Brendan Murtagh.

Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia

The Events Centre presents Russia’s Andrey Gugnin, winner of the Ernest Hutcheson First Prize of the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition. Gugnin has toured the world as a recitalist, a chamber music partner and as a concerto soloist, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Louvre,  the and Vienna’s Musikverein. Gugnin’s 90 minute performance includes classic pieces such as Bach’s Adagio in G Major MWV 968 and Schubert’s Piano Sonato number 17 in D Major D.850 as well as contemporary pieces such as 48 Fuges from Frank Zappa No. 6 G-Spot Tornado.
