Places to get active on the Sunshine Coast

With a constant stream of competitive events gracing the shores of the Sunshine Coast, we’ve come up with the best training spots for sporting enthusiasts of all fitness levels to stay active and healthy!

1. Bulcock Beach

Run along the boardwalk of Bulcock Beach and Happy Valley while overlooking the beautiful jagged outline of the Glass House Mountains. With plenty of other runners to keep you motivated, Bulcock Beach is a popular spot for all those who love to stay active. After your run, cool down in the sparkling blue waters of Bulcock Beach and swim adjacent to the northern most tip of Bribie Island!

2. Moffat Beach

If you like a challenge but also a spectacular view, the hills surrounding Moffat Beach are for you. Moffat Beach is a great spot to do hill sprints because there’s a reward waiting for you up the top - the beautiful northern coastline of the Sunshine Coast and the array of surfers and stand up paddle boarders below you! How’s that for motivation?

3. Currimundi Lake

Do a little resistance training against the currents of Currimundi Lake. Run up and down the sand dunes and then hop in the water to cool down and swim. It’s a great little active spot with paragliders also coming in thick and fast. For those that like more of a challenge, Currimundi Lake is also part of the Sunshine Coast’s amazing coastal pathways. Start at Bareki St and run all the way down to Leach Park in Caloundra’s CBD.

4. Mooloolaba Esplanade  

A popular spot for all Coasties, the run between Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headlands is always bustling with runners trying to motivate and outdo each other. Run all the way to the tip of Mooloolaba Beach, and then hop in the water for a nice relaxing swim, it’s the perfect afternoon.

5. Coolum Beach

Run up Mount Coolum for a quick half an hour work out and then cool off by jumping in the ocean that’s only a few minutes away. Head up there for sunrise, check out the coast from 208m above sea level and then duck to the beach for a swim and coffee – it’s the perfect way to kick-start your day.

6. North Shore – Mudjimba

 If you want a more relaxing afternoon but still want to stay active, head to North Shore and bring your furry friends for a beach walk. An off-lead dog beach, it’s the perfect spot to run around and have a play with man’s best friend. There’s even a canal side where your dogs can hop in to cool off from an afternoon of fun.
