A long weekend on the Sunshine Coast

Discover the stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland and magnificent coastal scenery on this relaxing three day driving itinerary.

Day one

Depart Brisbane or the Gold Coast and travel north to the Sunshine Coast. Visit Australia Zoo on the way to interact with Australian wildlife and see the main show in the Crocoseum, at 12 noon. In the afternoon, continue on to Caloundra to enjoy some time at Bulcock Beach and Pumicestone Passage. Choose from the variety of accommodation available in either Caloundra or further north in Mooloolaba.

Day two

Spend the morning at SEA LIFE Moolooaba to discover an ocean of fun at this aquarium, especially Showtime at Seal Island. Enjoy a fish and chip and famous Mooloolaba prawn lunch at Mooloolah River Fisheries.

In the afternoon, head up into the hinterland, including a shopping stop at the quaint town of Montville. A perfect afternoon tea stop for groups is Flaxton Gardens, offering expansive views over the hinterland. From here, walk off lunch and afternoon tea and a stroll through Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.

Day three

Stay in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland overnight and enjoy the peaceful surrounds in eco-certified lodgings. Depart early for a scenic coastal drive to Noosa, followed by a cruise through the Noosa Everglades, the only everglades system outside of Florida. Experience the river of mirrors, shorebirds and mangroves; home to several rare and threatened species, including inshore dolphins, dugongs, sea turtles and mangrove-dwelling butterflies. Spend the afternoon exploring Hastings Street, one of the most well-known shopping strips in Australia, or take a stroll down into the Noosa National Park.
