Peregian Beach visitor guide

06 Dec 2017

Peregian Beach is one of the most community-minded villages on the Sunshine Coast.

There’s a super-chilled, centrally-located shopping village, with a shady town square encircled by trendy cafes, fashion stores and gift stores that err on the side of the eclectic and cutting-edge. You can stroll barefoot around the little town, then cross the road to the beachfront park, with its excellent skatepark and children’s playground, and the popular local Surf Club.

It’s here on the grass that the twice monthly markets are held, followed by Peregian Originals, an afternoon of live music that has become one of the Sunshine Coast’s best-loved regular events. On the western side of Peregian Beach is Lake Weyba National Park, and Lake Weyba itself, which feeds into the estuary at Noosa Heads.

Peregian beach accommodation offers you a nice variety of options, from self-contained, pet-friendly holiday houses and luxury resorts with private cabins, to townhouses and apartments overlooking the seaside or Lake Weyba with space for large groups and families. Wherever you decide to stay, you can be assured it will be within a frisbee-throw of the beach and a short driving distance to the rest of the Sunshine Coast.

For things to see and do in Peregian beach you can start with the long walking track that connects the different beachfront areas. Jump on a mountain bike, scooter or skateboard and explore the coastal tracks, or navigate your way around the skatepark with the kids, followed by a surf or a swim on the patrolled beach. You will love browsing Peregian’s specialty stores, with clothing, jewellery and homewares you won’t find anywhere else. Two Sundays every month, you can spend the morning shopping at the groovy Peregian beachfront markets, then pull up a picnic rug in the afternoon, grab a couple of cold beers, and settle in for an afternoon of fabulous live music and dancing in the salty open air.

Your tastebuds will be well satiated here, with a choice of trendy cafes and top restaurants like Pitchfork, offering modern Australian cuisine, as well as fresh juice bars and a quintessential fish and chips shop.

The main Peregian Beach events are the markets and Peregian Originals, which happens on the first and third Sunday of the month in the park next to the Surf Life Saving Club. You’ll love the casual atmosphere as you join your friends and family on a blanket on the grass and share a cold drink and or some wine and cheese, while you listen to talented local and interstate original live music acts. You can arrive as early as 7.30am to visit the markets, where you can meet local artisans and food growers and sample their wares.
