Itinerary

Sunshine Coast Hinterland

The Sunshine Coast hinterland great walks.
The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walks.

Start your trek at Flaxton Mill Road, entrance to Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk with Tropical Treks. This stunning natural walk is made up of 7km of diverse habitat of deep rainforest gullies, Blackbutt forest and dry stony slopes of grasstrees and Allocasuarina trees. It is an important habitat for the Yellow-Tailed Black-Cockatoo, so make sure to keep an eye out for these sensational birds.

As you walk through the forest, keep in mind that you are wandering amongst one of the oldest protected habitats in the region. You can even see 300+ year old Flooded Gums that managed to escape the axe, back in the day. Listen out for the tranquil gurgle of Pencil Creek, as it feeds into Mapleton Falls, which is the main feature of this walk, along with the stunning outlook over the Obi Obi Creek valley. The higher elevation of Mapleton Falls National Park means there is an abundance and variety of bird species in the area. The team at Tropical Treks will provide binoculars for you to sneak a peek at the endangered Peregrine Falcon nests on the high cliffs, as well as a picnic lunch to refuel after your forest hike.

Make your way to your luxury accommodation at Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat for a couple of hours of relaxation. Enjoy the perfect combination of romance with log fireplaces and deep spa baths, mixed with the practical holiday comforts of a personal coffee machine and free WIFI.

Montville

For dinner, make your way by car to Wild Rocket @ Misty’s Micro Brewery. Situated in one of the most historic buildings in Montville, the former 'Fancy Goods & Lolly Shop' is now the perfect restaurant space, with many quirky nooks and crannies. Dinner is a selection of the best local produce and free range organic meats. In fact, everything is made onsite, from beef sausages, breads, stock, sauces and even the jams and chutneys that are served with scones.

After dinner, make your way back to your accommodation and settle in for a romantic night amongst the secluded hinterland.
