Your ultimate guide to Australia Day on the Sunshine Coast

It’s that time of year again, where we don our green and gold and head to the beach for a day of fun in the sun, catching up with mates and enjoying a good, old fashioned barbie over a coldie or two.

If you are still thinking of what to do on Australia Day, here’s a list of events that will make for a day of fun for the whole family.


Australia Day Parade

The 2018 Australia Day parade will be held down Burnett Street in Buderim. There will be plenty of street entertainment ahead of the annual parade, plus a military jet flyover starting off the parade at 9 am. The parade ends at the new Buderim Village Park where you'll find  entertainment and food stalls.

Multi-Faith thanksgiving service

Head along to St Mark’s Church for a multi-faith thanksgiving service at 7:30 am to 8:15 am where representatives from the Buddhist, Baha'i, Jewish, Islamic, Christian and other religious groups come together to celebrate theSunshine Coast’s diverse religious communities.

Flag raising ceremony

The flag raising at the Old Post Office at 8 am with representatives of the Gubbi Gubbi tribe and local politicians, school children and locals in attendance.

Australia Day at Aussie World

Australia Day at Down under Drive is the one and only place to celebrate Australia's favourite day. In 2018 you can enjoy a day filled with true-blue events, live music and fun for the whole family. The Australia Day festivities includes the famous Dunny Races, tug of war, family fun, kids activities and entertainment - and best of all it's free! The fun starts on the Aussie World Oval from 8 am in the morning. Bring your appetite to enjoy a great Aussie breakfast and freshly brewed coffee.

Marcoola Rocks Australia Day

Marcoola Rocks Australia Day is a FREE family fun day brought to you by Marcoola Surf Life Saving Club. Enjoy live tunes on the dunes all day, rides, Australian animals, a marketplace, a mechanical surf board, dunk tank, Australian tucker and much more. Entries are now open for the second-annual Marcoola Rocks FUN RUN! There are 2.5 km, 5km and 10 km courses along our beautiful stretch of beach, so there are options for every fitness level and age.

Australia Day in Coolum

Head to Tickle Park this Australia Day for breakfast from 7 am followed by an array of market stalls to explore. After wandering the markets take to the beach for a day of sun, surf and sand.

Noosa Australia Day Events

Enjoy a day of entertainment at Noosaville Lions Park, from 10:30 am to 6 pm. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities and entertainment, an international food court, market square and attractions on the Noosa River foreshore. Head along early and start the day with a big Aussie breakfast in the park from 7 am to 10 am.

Caloundra Twilight Markets

After a day of celebrations enjoy a relaxed evening at the Caloundra Twilight Markets to round out the perfect Australia Day. The market features street entertainment and plenty of stalls that are sure to excite. Don’t miss the sunset along the boardwalk on Bulcock Beach while you’re there, whilst listening to live music and enjoying a wonderful start to the long weekend.

Join Australia Zoo for an Aussie day out and celebrate with some of Australia's native animals. Enjoy pie eating competitions, face painting, pony rides, free billy tea and damper, live entertainment and so much more.

Australia Day Epic Beach Party at The Shore - Twin Waters

The Shore sundowner lounge setting is the quintessential Australian playground with kangaroos jumping through the resort, waterfront sandy beaches, BBQ & wood-fired oven cooking Aussie favourites, caravan-bar serving up the cold drinks and live music serenading to the sounds of summer PLUS they'llbe lighting up the night sky with an 8pm fireworks display over the lagoon.

Australia Day at the Imperial Hotel Eumundi

Celebrate Australia Day 2018 with your friends and family at the Imperial Hotel Eumundi - a truly iconic Australian hotel. The live music kicks off from 12noon with Renny Field playing acoustic grooves to get the vibe just right. Annie J will take over the mic from 6.30pm through to 9.30pm. Their playlists are guaranteed to feature a stack of your favourite Aussie tunes - so feel free to sing along if you feel inclined! 


MooloolaBaBQ Festival

The MooloolaBaBQ festival is a community event on Australia Day Weekend, at the Mooloolaba Wharf precinct from 10am - 8pm, embracing everything that people in the Australian community love about the great Australian barbecue. To celebrate this Aussie love of firing up the barbie, they have brought together a barbecue event for all the senses to incorporate a wide variety of cultures, styles of cooking, flavours and cuts.

Australia Day Marathon

The AusTRAILia Day Marathon on Saturday, 27 January 2018 will be based at Mt Beerwah National Park day use area. The marathon consists of three events of 10 km, a half-marathon, and a full-marathon in the Glass House Mountains, Queensland.

Sunnyboys at The Shed

Australian music legends, The Sunnboys, will take to the stage at Aussie World’s, The Shed this Australia day weekend. The band will perform material from across their entire catalogue including their three albums for Mushroom, the infamous debut ep on the Phantom label and even the odd b-side or rarity.

Coastline BMW Sunshine Coast Cup Day

Enjoy the fun, colour and excitement of live racing action at one of Australia's premium race tracks. The Coastline BMW Sunshine Coast Cup Day is fast becoming one of the most prestigious events held on the Sunshine Coast racing calendar.  The day encourages families and friends to get together and enjoy a great day out; with free kids activities and free entry for entrants under 18.
