Is it just us or has the weather already heated up like 10 degrees?
Along with breaking out the exercise gear (hey, bikini bodies aren’t made overnight), we’ve also popped the lid on all them festive feels. Basically, we’re busting to get social, down some cocktails or epic local craft beer, and nibble on some fine nosh.
Our glorious Coast is also blessed with a bevvie of brilliant bars in which to wet your whistle. From cruisy beer gardens to intimate, dimly-lit lounges, here are some of the best bars on the Sunshine Coast that you NEED to visit.
If you’re yet to tick Moto off your best bars on the Sunshine Coast bucket list, we’ll forgive you. As well as pouring local craft beer from Your Mates, Brouhaha, and 10 Toes, these guys are seriously serious about two spirits—gin and rum. Yep, look to their bar shelves and you won’t find any whisky, or vodka, or any other non-gin or non-rum spirit. But don’t worry, with options like finger-lime gin up for the sipping, there’s no chance you’re going to get bored. And because you’re going to be drinking ALOT, order a toastie to line the tum.
Brouhaha Brewery, Maleny
Sprawling deck—tick! Hearty menu—tick! Made-in-house beers pouring straight from the tank to the tap to your glass—tick! Brouhaha Brewery has got it all going on. Opening earlier this year, we’re pretty sure this Maleny gem is going to come into its own this spring. Rally your mates together, book a maxi-taxi, and work your way through all of the brews.
We’re still in total awe of Orléans. It’s seriously stunning, guys. Walk in and you’ll be swept away by the chandelier, the lounge seating, the live plant wall, and that’s all before you’ve even take a seat. Start the night with some wine on the Chesterfields, then order an exquisite seasonal dish from the dinner menu, followed by more drinks as you seat-sway (meaning: staying on your tush and swaying the top half of your body) to smooth jazz. When it’s time to move on, you’ll be pleased to know Ocean Street is a minute’s walk away. Party on!
Village Bicycle, Noosa
For the ultimate summer sesh, you’d best be making tracks to this friendly neighbourhood watering hole in Noosa. Perfect for a welcome-all catch up with your mates, Village Bicycle brings the goods with lip-smacking booze and a tasty menu. With an indoor area and cosy beer garden, this is easily one of the best bars on the Sunshine Coast.
Sunset Bar at Noosa Boathouse, Noosaville
So you might think you know Noosa Boathouse, but have you been up all those stairs to the very top? Open Tuesday to Sunday from 4.30pm, Sunset Bar is as close as you’ll get to a rooftop bar on the Sunny Coast. With stunning views over Noosa River, sipping on a cocktail as you watch the sun dip behind the hinterland, sounds like the ultimate way to embrace spring.
Old Soul, Maroochydore
If you haven’t been to Old Soul for months, we’d doubt you’d even recognise it. Looking suave from a recent makeover, this Ocean Street lounge bar is where you can burn those cocktail-calories on the d-floor with a whole heap of disco-lovers, into the wee hours on a Friday and Saturday night. Smash some tapas, slurp on a martini, bust a move, and repeat.
Rick's Whisky Bar, Palmwoods
This all-in-one American diner is still one of our fave spots on the Coast. Go for the burgers, stay for a beer in the massive outdoor garden, then stay a little longer for a superb whisky at the newly-opened Rick’s Whisky Bar (upstairs). Don’t leave without trying a Maple Manhattan.
La Canteena, Maroochydore
Life is best lived outdoors, which is why La Canteena rocks our world. Without doubt one of the best bars on the Sunshine Coast, this is where the laidback beautiful people head for chilled afternoon sessions in the sunshine. Oh, and if drinking leads to eating (which is normally how it works), the crew here do some very tasty-licious tacos.
Dirty Moes, Mooloolaba
Our love affair with Dirty Moes is growing stronger by the day. Where else can you get your hands on melt-in-your-mouth brisket and mac ‘n’ cheese, a sticky date espresso martini to wash it all down, and a tonne of dimly-lit, dive bar ambience? Get there, stat!
Bordertown might be the new kid on the Noosaville block, but the peeps behind it are no bar rookies. With a joint CV that includes launching, owning, and operating some of Brisbane’s most impressive venues—think: Fortitude Valley’s The Bowery, degustation restaurant The Buffalo Club, The Zoo, and Sky Room—it’s kinda obvious that if you’re after a good great night out, this bar slash restaurant will look after you. Warning: You won’t be able to stop at “just one drink”.
