If you’re like us and struggled with the small amount of events that happened last year, worry no more. The Sunshine Coast has already started a bumper event year, boasting a full calendar! Reach for your diaries because we are about to list out some of the events not to miss on the Sunshine Coast this year.
The Aussies are coming to the Sunshine Coast! The 2021 Australian Surf Life Saving
Championships will be hosted by Maroochydore SLSC, Alexandra Headland SLSC and Mooloolaba SLSC this April. The Sunny Coast beaches will see 314 Surf Clubs from around
Australia come together to compete in more than 480 beach and ocean events.
May 1 - 2
Eumundi is hosting a boutique festival over the Labour Day long weekend, starring the
likes of Kate Miller-Heidke, Busby Marou, Katie Noonan and The Dreggs, just to name a few. A two-day all ages music festival, Sunshine Sounds is a locally focused event for the whole family! Local legends, the Imperial Hotel and Eumundi Brewery will be serving up fresh brews and locally crafted folktale Gin over the groovy weekend of good tunes, great food and better company.
May 15 - 23
Who doesn’t love any excuse to visit the pristine shores of Tea Tre Bay? How about to
celebrate the 30th birthday of Noosa Festival of Surfing! Watch the pros hang ten as you pull up a beach towel and umbrella or enter yourself! At the end of the day make sure to enjoy a refreshing beverage with the sand between your toes at the pop-up beach bar.
If you’re not into all the sporting, racing, beach events the Sunshine Coast is renowned
for, don’t worry, this one’s for you! The Big Pineapple Music Festival’s 2021 lineup has dropped, and so have our jaws, with the likes of Bliss n Eso, G Flip, Thelma Plum, Peking Duk just to name a few. Camping is available at the iconic location for both Friday and Saturday nights.

It’s safe to say that enjoying a good craft beer is something Sunny Coasters do pretty
well, considering there are now 17 craft breweries across the coast (and counting). Is there a better way to celebrate our love for beer with a whole weekend of beers, ciders at the hottest new event location on the Coast? Find your new favourite brew this May at The Craft Beer and Cider Festival, now hosted at NightQuarter, Birtinya.
June 10 - 13
Foodies, this one is for you! Noosa Eat and Drink is back, and in a different way for 2021. Now Noosa is treating guests to a series of smaller, more frequent Eat & Drink experiences Throughout the year. This June, book into the seaside town of Noosa for an incredible line-up of brunches, dinners, cocktail parties and experiences.
July 9 - 11
Queensland’s Premier Garden Expo is back! A must see for green thumbs and novice gardeners, The Garden expo is a great excuse to spend a weekend exploring the Sunshine
Coast hinterland town of Nambour. For all your gardening demos, nurseries, landscape displays and floral design competitions, this is one weekend not to miss!
July 17 - 18
If the name of the event didn’t give it away, this adventure race is not your usual sporting event! Located in the Hinterland at Wild Horse Mountain, this short fast, fun event is suitable for anyone with a real sense of adventure! The classic course consists of 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running and 1-4km of kayaking, but don’t worry there are shorter options for beginners! Running over a weekend for the first time this year, the Maxim Adventure Race is a must do for thrill seekers, in a picturesque location,
July 23 - 25
Where better to host a Stand Up Paddle festival than the pristine waters of Mooloolaba? The inaugural Mooloolaba SUP Fest will be hosted from July 23-25 this year and will see a variety of different events for paddlers of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a novice or a pro, this is one to add to the diary!
Sunshine Coast Stadium is once again playing host to some epic NRL clashes this year!
This July the Sunshine Coast will host the South Sydney Rabbitohs and New Zealand Rabbitohs for Round 19.
August 14 – 15
Runners, feel like smashing out a marathon along the most picturesque coastal run (in
our unbiased opinion)? The Sunshine Coast Marathon is an iconic inaugural event that suits all ages, with a 2km, 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon for those wanting the ultimate challenge.
August 26 - 29
Back and better than ever, the Gympie Music Muster is turning 40 this year! With more than 100 artists performing in 5 venues over 4 days, The Gympie Music Muster is a camping and music experience staged deep within the natural surrounds of Amamoor State Forest.
If you have been to the Sunshine Coast before, you know Old Woman Island is an iconic landmark, surrounded by local legend. Starting at Mooloolaba Spit, the Old Woman Ocean
Paddle challenges Ocean and Spec ski paddlers, and well as SUP and board paddlers on the 18km journey along the coastline to Mudjimba, around the Island and return. For those not up to the 18km, join in The Little Woman, a 5km course around Mooloolaba Beach bay.
August 27 – September 5
Horizon Festival is an awe-inspiring festival of visual art, music, theatre, dance, words + ideas, film and creative workshops, all inspired by the stories and beauty of the Sunshine Coast. The full festival program will be released on the 17th of June, so keep the dates free if you are a lover of all things creative.
A magnificent trail run takes you across the Blackall Range in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, experiencing some of the most untouched rainforests, tall eucalypt trees, picturesque waterfalls and quiet hinterland rolling hills. The Blackall 100 is an epic ultramarathon not to miss for trail runners!
October 30 - 31
We are beyond excited for the first year of Buskers by the Lake! From the 29th to the 31st of October at Lake Kawana this weekend of epic music, local talent and tastes from around the world is one for the whole family. Make sure you have your picnic rug sorted to enjoy the musicians, foodies and creatives will have to offer, stay tuned for further details!
