Foodies rejoice! After the big C forced many events to take a hiatus the past few years, one of our absolute favourites - The Curated (side) Plate - is back on the Sunshine Coast!

Malt Shovel Taphouse, Birtinya

Taking place from 29 July to 7 August 2022, the festival will celebrate the Sunshine Coast’s incredible produce, restaurants and farms with a series of bucket list worthy events happening along the coast to the heart of the hinterland.

But with so many incredible, drool-worthy things to do on offer (there’s 85 events in total!), we’ve done you - and your social calendar - a serious solid and picked out the events that you simply cannot miss.

Native Bush and Seafood Cruise

When: 2 -5 August, 11:30am to 1:30pm
Where:123 Parkyn Parade, Mooloolaba

See the Sunshine Coast through the lens of the world’s oldest living culture on this Native Bush and Seafood Cruise with Saltwater Eco Tours. Climb aboard their 114-year-old heritage listed vessel and learn about the traditional custodians of this area - the Kabi Kabi people - as you cruise along the canals. While listening to the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo, feast on a three-course lunch featuring local produce and unique native bush flavours - then wash it all down with their signature cocktail, a Lemon Myrtle Gin Delight.

Gin-lovers, this one's for you. Sunshine & Sons - famous for their pot-distilled in the hinterland forest gins - have teamed up with the talented chefs at Malt Shovel Taphouse for a decadent three-course dinner. With a menu specifically created to hero the flavours of Sunshine & Sons gins, you’ll feast - family-style - on locally caught mahi mahi with salsa verde, Sunshine Coast swordfish with burnt butter sage sauce and potato bake, before finishing with tiramisu made using Mr. Ballistic Macadamia Molasses Spirit. Each course comes served with a Sunshine & Sons tipple. Yes, we’re drooling too.

Brewer’s Bento - Beer And Food Pairing Masterclass

As Australia’s Craft Beer Capital, it would be remiss not to check out this tasty masterclass. Over the course of two hours, the talented crew at Brouhaha will teach you everything you need to know about creating the ultimate beer and food combo - so you can really impress your mates next time you invite them over. And the best way to learn is of course to taste, so naturally you’ll get to enjoy a three-course menu, tucking into bite-sized dishes of local produce, each paired with a different style of beer. While you’re munching and sipping away, you’ll learn all about the different flavour characteristics that make the perfect culinary partnership.

Podcast, Pinot and Duck

For a side of insightful conversation with your lunch, snag yourself a ticket to Podcast, Pinot and Duck. You’ll indulge in a three-course lunch prepared by Market Bistro’s executive chef Harry Lilai and head chef Danial Dobra - paired with matching pinot - while listening to some of the Sunshine Coast’s most interesting blokes having a yarn. Hosted by podcaster John 'JC' Caruso, bless your ears with local chef and restaurateur Tony Kelly; chef and Hello Sunshine Magazine Food Writer Matt Golinski; Powderfinger drummer Jon Coghill; and rising star in Australian Motorsport, Harri Jones, as they share their unique stories of mateship, music and sport over great food and excellent wine. This is one seriously special event.

Paradise Rum Cocktail Masterclass

Hosted by Paradise Rum venue manager Simon Jones, you’ll be taken on a journey of muddling, shaking and stirring. By the end of the hour-long workshop, you’ll know your way around a Boston shaker (including finding out what it is), what cocktail glasses suit which tipple and the perfect garnishes to take your concoctions to the next level. Yep, you’ll be sure to impress at your next party. Best of all, you’ll get to taste test along the way and score a reservation at Paradise Rum for lunch or dinner post-class.
