Treetop Challenge

When the holidays grace us with time and opportunity, and the little ones are ready for adventure, sometimes planning a fun itinerary can be tricky if you don’t know where to start! So we’ve put together the perfect day trip for your next visit to Nambour and surrounds including the best places to explore, play and experience for the whole family.

The Big Pineapple

A Sunshine Coast icon, the Big Pineapple is located at the gateway to Nambour and the #1 place to start your family day out.  Aussies have been fascinated by “big things” since the 1960’s, and the Big Pineapple was opened in 1971 as part of the Sunshine Plantation by Bill and Lyn Taylor. Their working farm was transformed into one of Australia’s first agricultural tourist attractions, showcasing tropical produce, and later adding the famous “nut train”.

At the height of its popularity it even hosted Prince Charles and Princess Diana on their tour of Australia.

Now heritage listed, don’t miss grabbing a photo out front & some retro pineapple themed mementos.  With a makeover on the way, The Big Pineapple is set to make a welcome come back that we are all excited about. For the meantime, there are a couple of must do’s, just a stone’s throw from our favourite fruit!

The Treetops Challenge will get you moving through a number of ropes courses, among the native trees. Test your skills on the high ropes and zip lines amongst 10acres of lush tropical rainforest.  Suitable for ages 8 and up, this is an awesome way to instill confidence and self esteem, not to mention a great workout.

If you have the little ones with you, bring them over to Wildlife HQ for some fun & furry  learning.  Kids under 3 are free!  Visit your favourite native and exotic animals or book in an up close encounter, have your photo taken with animals of all shapes and sizes and get to know more about your favourite furry friends. From the reptile barn to the cafe, you will enter another world.  Walk through the stunning rainforest, meet the meerkats, see the red pandas and watch the Koalas relaxing in the trees.  A great way to spend the morning with the family.

A short distance from the central hub, hidden amongst the trees, you will hear the sound of trickling water. Cilento Park is host to a waterfall, a babbling waterhole and has a magical bushwalking trail for most levels, that the kids will enjoy. Pack an early picnic dinner and set up on the grass, or fire up the BBQ. Take a walk through the native bushland and cool off on a hot Summer’s afternoon in the park’s waterhole, under the falls.  A fabulous place to wind down for the weekend.
