The best coffee on the Sunshine Coast

Happily, there are so many places to choose from when it comes to finding that perfect brew-tiful cup of coffee.

You might love a nook in Caloundra somewhere, but your friend swears their local in Mooloolaba is the only place to go, the options are seemingly endless.

To celebrate International Coffee Day this month, we have put our tastebuds together and are sharing our favourite spots to get our caffeine fix! In no particular order (because that would be impossible), here are our picks for the best coffee on the Sunshine Coast.

The best coffee on the Sunshine Coast

Grounded, Woombye

With local Vintage Black beans in every smooth cup of coffee, you will want to order a second. Everything about Grounded is adorable and completed to perfection, from the flaky pastries in the cabinet, to brunch dishes resembling artwork, and the Hamptons-style décor. They even have live music on Friday nights, it doesn’t get much cooler than that.

Flying West Roasters, Doonan

Hidden away in Doonan, this industrial style cafe is home to the famous beans of Flying West Roasters. These guys had humble beginnings at the Eumundi Markets, and because of the quality coffee have a 20-year history on the Sunshine Coast. With hanging greenery, dark timber furniture and modern industrial décor, this beautiful cafe is one you won’t want to leave.

Candid, Marcoola

More than just a café, a block back from the beach in Marcoola is Candid. Alongside consistently good brews made with Slide beans, you will find a range of pre-loved vintage and current fashion. The clothing is all handpicked and upcycled from around Australia with as much love as goes into the coffee making.

The Bird and the Beans, Buderim

We have it on good authority (from a room full of coffee addicts) that this is the best coffee in Buderim! This old-school coffee joint is run out of a converted garage and is every bit as cool as it sounds. As well as great coffee, The Birds and The Beans serves up an Insta-worthy decor, delicious eats and sweet treats.

Shotgun Espresso, Maleny

Come for the coffee, stay for the food! Shotgun Espresso is full of mismatched furniture, indoor plants galore and teeming with good food that’s been lovingly prepared. The coffee at this Hinterland gem is made using Campos beans and you won’t find a better spot for your brew!

If you like your coffee ground fresh and weighed for each and every cup, you have found your spot. Made with local beans from Clandestino Roasters, you are guaranteed a smooth blend for your morning jolt. Paired with that laid-back beach vibe, what better pairing is there?

Compound, Coolum

Surf and coffee go hand in hand and after catching some waves down at Coolum, save yourself for a caffeine hit from specialty roasters Padre Coffee at Compound. Tucked a street back from Coolum’s main drag, you will not only be served up great coffee, but also a gallery of vintage surf threads, relic boards and free-flowing banter.

Entity Coffee, Sunshine Beach

Follow your nose to local favourite, Entity Coffee in Sunshine Beach for one of the best coffees on the Sunshine Coast. This small roasting house and espresso bar is famed for its single origin beans and blends, and sources ethically sourced speciality beans.

Urban Garden, Maroochydore

Probably the only time being in the courthouse is a good time! Urban Garden is serving up smooth, robust coffee in small cups, and you’ll be sharing tables or benches with creative folk (they even have wifi if you want to stay and work).

Old Salt Coffee, Noosaville

Less café, more hole in the wall, but that doesn’t mean the coffee isn’t good! You will find Old Salt Coffee right on the river in Noosaville (Jetty17 Boat & Kayak Hire to be precise) which means your cuppa comes with the best views around. Made with local beans from Flying West Roasters and local milk from Maleny Dairies, these guys are making sure your coffee is as fresh as can be.

White Picket Fence, Caloundra

Right on Bulcock St, the team at White Picket Fence are pouring ‘The Cats Pyjamas’, a rich chocolatey coffee blend from a Brisbane-based micro-roastery – much to our delight! The café is set in a hacienda building that used to be a plant nursery – the setting Instagram dreams are made of. From the pink arched windows to the gravel courtyard, Besser block bar and abundance of palm trees, you will linger over your coffee of choice here.
