What The Locals Love

đź’— Go for a hike through Kondalilla Falls National Park.
đź’— Have a sun-drenched dip at Baxter Falls.
đź’— Tuck into a steak sandwich at The Barn on Flaxton.
đź’— Treat yourself to the Bollinger High Tea at Flaxton Gardens.

Sitting snug between ancient craggy ranges and lush rainforest, the beautiful village of Flaxton is a tale of two halves.

On Flaxton’s eastern side you’ll be blessed with spectacular sweeping views that take the eye soaring off the Blackall Range and down to the ocean’s horizon — early risers, prepare yourselves for a goosebump-inducing sunrise.

Flaxton’s western side is blanketed with the verdant subtropical rainforest of Kondalilla National Park. Here you can venture deep into the belly of the forest, hiking amongst lush greenery (Picnic Creek Circuit is a 1.7km easy walk offering valley views from a lookout point) and losing hours swimming in refreshingly cool waterholes.

If you’re looking to discover some of the spots only the locals know about, Baxter Falls, located in the north of Flaxton, is a literal dream. Blanketed by towering eucalypt forest and nestled within a rugged gorge, the cascading waterfall provides the ultimate natural swimming pool to cool off in post hike. Access it via Flaxton Mill Road Carpark, just follow the pathway – which forms part Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk – to reach it.

Post swim, settle in for lunch at The Barn on Flaxton where you’ll get to devour the region’s freshest produce. For something a little special, raise your pinkie with high tea at Flaxton Gardens. Sip tea and nibble on delicate petit fours as you take in the rolling green hills of the hinterland, before retiring for the night at one of Flaxton’s postcard-perfect B&B’s - like Avocado Grove situated on 3.5 sprawling acres or Mitta Glen Guesthouse - a beautifully restored Queenslander originally built in the late 1800s.
