Great Beach Drive

Enjoy 200 kilometres of spectacular beach driving on this unforgettable journey along Queensland's Sunshine and Fraser coasts. This touring route takes in two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, a World Heritage Marine Park and the largest sand island in the world. The Great Beach Drive is suitable for experienced off-road drivers and sections can be enjoyed at your leisure - from half day adventures to a full week of touring. The drive kicks off in Noosa where you can stop for lunch or a paddle down Noosa River. Then take the 'sandy highway' to Rainbow Beach - a wonderful place to go sky diving, paragliding, fishing or horse riding.

Hop on the car ferry over to Fraser Island to experience Mother Nature at her finest. The island is home to a range of native plants and animals - as well as patches of rainforest, freshwater lakes and vast sand dunes.

Back on the mainland Hervey Bay is where the 'whales come to play'. Head out on a whale watching cruise and then treat yourself to a bite to eat at one of the many cosmopolitan restaurants and cafes around town.

Continue north to the historic city of Maryborough with its quaint colonial streets. Looping back south you'll have the chance to stop in a number of places of interest including the fishing village of Tin Can Bay, the gold rush town of Gympie and the country town of Cooroy. Be sure to time your visit to Eumundi on a Saturday or Wednesday morning to enjoy the world famous Eumundi Markets.
