Do you spend more time looking up than looking down? Can you tell the difference between Orion, a satellite, and a plane carrying holidaymakers? Visit Sunshine Coast is seeking a passionate Chief Star Counter to join our team and help showcase one of the region’s most spectacular natural assets — our night sky.
As Chief Star Counter, you’ll be responsible for monitoring, counting, admiring, and enthusiastically reporting on the stars visible across the Sunshine Coast. Your duties include conducting evening “star audits,” identifying constellations, rating moonrises, and recommending the best locations for visitors to experience celestial wonder.
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional curiosity, a love of the outdoors, and the ability to remain awake past bedtime. Previous experience in astronomy is welcome but not essential; enthusiasm for gazing skyward is mandatory. Strong storytelling skills are highly regarded, as you’ll help inspire visitors to discover the Sunshine Coast after dark.
Benefits include flexible night shifts, unlimited access to breathtaking views, regular encounters with shooting stars, and the occasional opportunity to make a wish while on duty.
If you believe every great destination should be measured not only by its beaches and hinterland, but also by the brilliance of its night sky, we’d love to hear from you.
