4 day trip ideas to the Sunshine Coast

From the beach to the hinterland the Sunshine Coast is a smorgasbord of activities and attractions. It is also a haven of relaxation and the perfect place to hit the waves.

Day trip 1:

If you only have one day to unwind, the Sunshine Coast is a wonderful place to put your feet up. From the minute you enter the region surrounded by the peaks of the Glass House Mountains, you’ll instinctively slow down to take in the view and start to take it easy.

On your way through the rolling hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, stop in for a light takeaway snack at Maleny Food Co. The team at Maleny Food Co are currently doing up delectable cheese, dried fruit, cracker and chilled drink picnic baskets, perfect to pick up and stop at a nearby waterfall.

Just a short drive from Maleny Food Co, Gardners Falls is an easy stroll from the carpark. With a wonderful bush setting complete with rockpools and rope swings for the more daring, this is the perfect place to set up a picnic, pop in for a quick dip and enjoy lush greenery.

After working up an appetite enjoying the bubbling falls and greenery of Maleny, enjoy some delicious and locally sourced dinner from just down the hill. Harry’s on Buderim is offering an extensive take away menu that includes the likes of charred Mooloolaba prawns or poached Atlantic Salmon. Conclude the day with their delectable desserts to suit the cool change with warm apple cake, served with caramelised apples, toasted almonds and butterscotch sauce.

Day trip 2:

Start your day with a coffee and breaky from The Pocket in Moffat Beach, Caloundra. We can’t go past the savoury muffins! Take the beautiful Coastal walk from Moffat to Caloundra and Golden beach, where it’s time to hit the water.

With stand up paddle boards, kayaks and jet skis to hire, you’ll be all set to explore Pumicestone Passage which is the body of water between Bribie Island and Queensland mainland. You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled, the passage is teaming with wildlife.

A hot day in the sun and sand is the perfect excuse for a feed and a drink. Grab some tasty bites from our friends at Moffat Beach Brewing Co. We recommend the takeaway schnitzel, chips and of course a six pack of the crisp Passenger Pale Ale.

Day trip 3:

If ‘explorer’ is your middle name, then the Sunshine Coast is the perfect place for you. The Glass House Mountains’ peaks are calling for you to hike up and the views from the top are breathtaking. Mount Ngungun, Mount Tibrogargan and Mount Beerwah are all open for climbers and offer spectacular views, especially of Mount Coonowrin which is also known as Crookneck due to its distinctive shape. Set your own pace on a self-guided walk, or join a tour with Experientia Sunshine Coast.

After a busy morning getting your sweat up it’s time for breakfast and a swim. Only a short distance away, Mooloolaba is a seaside town full of shops, cafes and a spectacular beachfront. Spend a few hours recuperating and you’ll be ready for your next adventure - a waterfall.

Tucked away behind Maroochydore, Buderim holds a secret little gem close to it’s heart. Buderim Forest Park is a 45 hectare secluded oasis, with a beautiful accessible walkway that takes you through the forest and opens up at Buderim Falls. With the sounds of cat birds in the background and the gentle stream following over rocks, you’ll be completely astounded that this reserve is only a 20 minute drive from Mooloolaba!

Day trip 4:

The Original Eumundi Markets is the perfect way to kick start your weekend. On every Saturday and Wednesday, the Eumundi Markets is a premier artisan market that is iconic to its area. With entertainment and great food to accompany you while you browse, it’s a market experience like no other.

After filling up on local tastes and treats, it’s time to conquer a mountain. Work off lunch by climbing up Mount Coolum for an unforgettable experience that leads for an incredible view of the coastline. It’s a short 20-25 min walk to the peak of Mount Coolum and is a great spot to spot whales in the distance towards Mudjimba Island.

To refuel after your climb, enjoy a delicious meal from the Surf Club Coolum. Try their burgers and chips, and stroll down the main beach as the sun sets and the sky turns into a spectacular show of blues, oranges, pinks and purples.

After a full day on the Sunshine Coast, you’ll wish you had more than a day to spend in the region.
