There are very few places you can start your day with an early morning ocean swim, then breakfast to a breathtaking backdrop of ancient volcanic mountain peaks, yet the Sunshine Coast serves it daily. Beachside Bliss

If uncrowded beaches that stretch on for miles is your idea of heaven, then turn off the Bruce Highway at Caloundra and follow ocean-hugging roads north as they track some of the 100km of pristine, crystal-clear beaches of the Sunshine Coast.

Set-up your van on stunning beachfront sites, enjoy the local village feel and breathe in the fresh salty air as you see the best of the coastline on foot or bike on the coastal pathway. Stretching from Bells Creek at Golden Beach to Tewantin on the Noosa River – it is dotted with picture perfect breakfast spots to restore your energy.

For the young at heart, see the stunning azure colours of Pumicestone Passage on a jet ski. Choose your pace, from fast to leisurely, and experience the beauty of Bribie Island and the mangroves at the backdrop of the Glass House Mountains. Or if a bird’s-eye view is more your beat, grab a seaplane over golden shorelines for a sight you won’t soon forget.

And with all that activity sure to work up an appetite, the local Surf Clubs are just as spectacular. Settle in for the freshest local seafood with views right on the beach. And wash it down with one of the local award-winning craft beers from milk stouts to summer berry infused larger.

Riverside Relaxation

Often forgotten, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland is spoiled with remarkable rivers that you can stay right alongside for the ultimate in relaxation. Just 30mins from the coast you’ll find award-winning gardens serving indulgent high teas to botanic gardens teaming with birdlife.

A bucket-list experience, Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is the perfect place to view the breathtaking vista of the Glass House Mountains. Grab a bite to eat at the new discovery centre and café before spotting the Red Legged Pademelons in the luscious rainforest behind.

The hinterland also offers an array of amazing hikes and walks whether it’s climbing the summit of Mt Ngungun or Mt Ninderry or discovering the refreshing waterfalls and swimming holes at Kondalilla, Booloumba or Mapelton Falls.

Afterwards, meander down village main streets showcasing brilliant bookstores, and historic hotels. The Hinterland also has a thriving art scene with contemporary art galleries, local artist’s co-operatives and bodyworkers offering a range of healing therapies.

If markets are your thing, then the Sunshine Coast has you covered from farmers markets, night markets and of course, the famous Eumundi markets. You’ll take home a bounty of sun-ripened produce straight from farm, indigenous and eclectic arts and crafts, and street food from around the globe!

Finish your day on one of the many stunning sunset river cruises with champagne and a decadent local cheese platter.
